Sky - Northern Lights by Lisa Salisbury Hackley

October 2025 - Sky - Northern Lights

About the Image(s)

This was my first attempt at photographing the Northern Lights. We have had numerous opportunities over the past year to catch this wonderful phenomena (without having to travel to Iceland with the hope to catch them). I love not only the sky, but the reflection of the sky in the water. This shot was taken at the end of a lake five minutes from my house...I am hoping to get out again and refine my technique!

How lucky you are to have this show available to you so near where you live. I agree with you that the reflection makes the photo. Great capture, amazing first attempt.   Posted: 10/15/2025 01:05:18

Lisa, what a beautiful picture! Love the way you process the picture and the reflection really adds a great deal of interest and depth to the image. Thank you for sharing and hope you will be able to capture another image in the future.   Posted: 10/15/2025 05:03:06

Having the reflection of the colorful sky in the lake makes this image so captivating for me. I never thought of the Northern Lights in this way. Your camera technique was great. I even see stars in the colored areas of the sky. I like the composition, but I'm curious if you also took any photos where there was more lake than sky? I wonder if that view would be as impressive.   Posted: 10/15/2025 21:50:41

This is a wonderful aurora image. The reflection really enhances the image. Nice job!

Can you share the technique you used? Camera, settings, tripod or not? What state are you in? The aurora doesn't often dip into the continental US. Those in the north get the best opportunities.   Posted: 10/26/2025 01:45:29
