About the Image(s)

My wife and I went to Spain last year and did a lot of wandering around the various towns we visited. This is from Barcelona and is the entrance for a famous choral society. I was taken by the way the carved arch was incorporated into a modern building and decided it would be interesting in black and white.
Sony A7R V, Tamron 28-200 lens. ISO 2500, 50mm. f/16, 1/200 second. Shot handheld.
Processed in Lightroom Classic, DxO PureRaw, and Photoshop..

Hi Henry: You did a great job in placing the carved arch precisely in the frame. The distance on each side of carved arch is exactly the same on each side of the frame and this same distance is adhered to at the top and bottom.

The tonality is good, the bottom though quite dark still has detail in the background. Am not certain if a very thin white border would add a finishing touch to this picture or be a distraction. At the bottom it may separate the dark background a little better from the black webpage. Just a thought!   Posted: 10/12/2025 05:29:08

Hi Murphy,
Thanks for your comments. I'll have to think about the idea of a border on the image. I tend to dislike borders as a rule, but I do see your point about separation.   Posted: 10/20/2025 15:58:11

Well seen, Henry! The newer bricks and the old relief together are telling a good story. A good geometry and the 3D effect of the relief making the picture perfect! Good job!   Posted: 10/12/2025 22:59:16

Hello Henry! The 3-D effect is what jumped out for me. Always a challenge with a 2-D medium. To see this compared to the color image really shows the subject contrast. One would think this to be on an older building. The processing of the tonality is well done to make the sculpted relief stand out. Nice...   Posted: 10/13/2025 16:02:49

Thanks, Ed. The contrast between old and new is what drew me to the scene. I appreciate your comment about my processing.   Posted: 10/20/2025 15:59:43

Very interesting subject, excellent job maintaining the symmetry - especially hand held. Perhaps a bit more contrast in the people and faces.   Posted: 10/18/2025 22:08:21

Thanks, Sheldon. I was able to line things up pretty well, but Lightroom's Upright feature was helpful in dialing it in. I'll take another look at the faces.   Posted: 10/20/2025 16:01:09
