October 2025 - Watching the World Go By

About the Image(s)

I set my intent before visiting this place, about 40 minutes drive from my home. I planned to use slow shutter speed to capture these old jetty pylons. It is a popular photography spot and fortunately on this day, I had both reasonable weather (cloudy, cool) and no photographer competition, so could pick my spot.
I used several slightly different angles and this is one of my favorite images from the day.
I used ND filters to get the length of shutter speed I wanted to smooth the water.
Fujifilm X-T4, 10-24mm lens @ 24mm, ISO 160, f7.1, 30 secs, ND filters, tripod.
Editing included slight cropping, temp. adjustment in Lightroom and removal of distractions in Photoshop.
I appreciate any thoughts or comments you may have.

Hi Meredith, I think it's really lovely. The colors of the water are soft and smooth. The only thing I notice is that the water toward the picture's bottom is lighter in color -- So I might do an Adjustment Layer to make it match the other water, or I might crop the bottom, or I might have stepped back to let us see the water's edge.
On the other hand, it's lovely. I'd love to know what time of day you took it -- dawn, dusk, mid-day?   Posted: 10/12/2025 07:43:19

Thanks for your suggestions Donna.
Cropping the bottom is the easy option but I did want to keep the seaweed balls in the frame.
If I'd stepped back I'd have had a large pile of messy and unattractive seaweed.
I'll try an adjustment layer. Not my forte but I can certainly use the practice for this technique.   Posted: 10/13/2025 02:40:37

Wonderful shot & composition. I like the way the stones complete the diagonal. I would darken the water.   Posted: 10/24/2025 01:19:09
