Snowy Egret by Ken Fowkes

July 2026 - Snowy Egret

About the Image(s)

This Egret was busy grooming itself, so I waited until it briefly looked up and took the shot. It was the feet that grabbed my attention, but I love all those feathers sticking out too. The background was dark (good) but quite busy, so I darkened it further, as much as I felt I could without making it look too unrealistic.

Great detail of the feathers and super sharp all around. I like the feet too. Good shadow control between the beak and the dark background. Good that you were patient to wait for it to look up.

This is a stunner. The details on the bird are excellent without any blown-out highlights. Darkening the background really helped the bird stand out.   Posted: 07/18/2026 21:32:19

Beautiful image and great detail. Technically perfect, and conveys the feel of being there with the egret.   Posted: 07/20/2026 14:34:13
