Long road, two bends by Alastair Cochrane

July 2026 - Long road, two bends

About the Image(s)

A single track road where I walk often with our dogs - I have been looking for THE photograph here for several years and this, taken earlier this year, is the nearest to what I was looking for. It was dull and overcast and for a brief moment there was a break in the clouds which added some light to the scene which was picked up on the fence posts and the vehicle marks on the road. What I found interesting, comparing it to other photographs taken previously, was both the markings and the road on other days with a high light level were reversed with dark tracks on a light road. I think this is as near as I will get to my preferred image.

This photo has a surreal look to it, with the contrasty road and the light on the fence. Good control of the shadows. I always like roads that go off into the distance.   Posted: 07/04/2026 17:55:48

Beautiful multiple leading lines! I feel an inviting entry into the image that beckons one to take the journey down the road. I really like the way the light hits the fence giving it strong 3D presense. I bet you enjoy your walks in this pastoral scene.   Posted: 07/17/2026 20:02:02

Wow, this is a moody and atmospheric countryside scene. The gentle curve of the road is the strongest compositional element, guiding the viewer's eye through the image. I also appreciate the consistently muted tones throughout. An excellent photo.   Posted: 07/18/2026 21:26:35

A great, minimalist image. The viewer's eyes are drawn by the two bright edges of the road leading one along the path, to wonder what lies beyond that last curve. The bare, dark brown sides at left and right provide the necessary negative space. The side lighting on the near fence posts is the icing on the cake! Yes, this calls for careful printing.   Posted: 07/20/2026 14:47:23
