About the Image(s)

Shot on my last trip to Inner Mongolia in China. This is a community of horse breeders that live on the desolate plains of Inner Mongolia. Rearing and training horses is what they do. They live a very pastoral life. Horses are exercised in the morning which includes wading into a body of water. The early morning light was fantastic and reflected very well on the horses which were on their morning run. Appreciate feedback from other members on the image. Specifications as follows.

Shot on my Nikon Z9, 28-400 lens, F8, ISO 1800, 1/800 shutter speed, 400 mm focal length. I think the white balance was Kelvin at 7500.

Lovely time of day and perfect timing. I like the slim jim and would make it slimmer. The water at the bottom does not enhance the story and the horses are in the middle of the photo. I would crop most of the grey water out the bottom so there horses are running in the lower third   Posted: 10/03/2025 21:02:28

To begin, you have captured an image with incredible visual interest - we don't often see images of a herd of horses in motion, much less in water - wow! Next, Hollywood couldn't dial up better light, and the rising mist in the morning air is its "pièce de résistance" - Hoshedar, you have such an incredible subject, story and visual interest I thought you should focus on it so in my VR I removed what I consider is eye-grabbing water and replaced it by matching the existing water - this is truly an incredible photo that I'd put that on my wall in a nano-second - your best image yet IMO.   Posted: 10/05/2025 20:48:35

The water at the bottom of the image does not do a good job. The crop performed by Butch is fine. The morning light and the mist add to the beauty of the scene.   Posted: 10/15/2025 15:39:56

Great image, the lighting and the reflections in the water are really good. You captured several horses running and the shutter speed froze the horses and the water splashed up. So far, all of the comments have an issue with the grey water at the bottom. I like what Butch did, but took a different approach. First I reversed the image so that the horses are running into the image instead of out. Then I cropped off some of the bottom and the area in front of the horses.   Posted: 10/23/2025 19:40:49

Very beautiful with great light and so sharp to freeze the motion. It must have been a truly amazing sight, and not easy to capture! Yes, the non-reflective water is a shame. I tried a variation on what butch did but am not sure this is entirely credible - the reflections are an odd shape. But I am being picky and pedantic - nobody else is likely to notice given the rest of the shot is so perfect!   Posted: 10/25/2025 19:06:59
