About the Image(s)
This is a Rose of Sharon bush in my backyard. It blooms most of August and September. I love the color. I am still experimenting with my new macro lens. My intention was to get one or two petals in sharp focus and the rest of the flower in soft focus.

Sharon I find this composition interesting. In light of the fact that you are experimenting with your macro lens, it looks as though you have accomplished your initial objectives objects. There are a couple things I would suggest. Not knowing the camera settings, my guess is you were using relatively large aperture. a large aperture minimizes depth of field. A tripod is good tool to use in close-up photography. It allows you close the shutter down to accomplish maximum DOF. It also allows you to stop your shutter speed down, preventing camera movement.
Like you, I like the color as well.   Posted: 10/20/2025 01:48:25

Lovely flower. Rose of Sharon has a great stamen when it is fully open. Lots of opportunities for macro photoing. I agree with Jim about the depth of field with a macro lens.

Hi Sharon, To my eye, this image reveals the lovely delicacy of a Rose of Sharon bloom. I agree, the color is lovely.
I appreciate soft-focus, dreamy flower images, although in our photo club judges seem to gravitate toward images that are registered with a greater DOF.   Posted: 10/25/2025 14:24:27
