October 2025 - I'm Sorry

About the Image(s)

This photo was taken at my granddaughter’s quinceaƱera. In the moment captured, my son is gently reminding his grandniece to slow down and play nicely with her cousins.

Post-processing notes:
Lightroom performed the initial automatic adjustments, increasing shadow exposure and reducing highlights. I then isolated the subjects and placed them on a new layer, which was enhanced using Topaz Photo AI. To emphasize the subjects, I lowered the exposure of the original layer and applied a Gaussian blur to soften the background.

Exposure notes:
1/60sec @ f/9.0 ISO 12800 with flash fill (TTL)
Camera:
Nikon Z8 with Nikkor 24-120mm f/4.0 @ 60mm

Such a charming young lady. The emotion on her face reveals how seriously she takes this moment. Brilliantly done.

Since the child is clearly the center of attention in the photograph, I decided I'd see how the image would look with the man. Your thoughts?

Hi Richard, she has a gorgeous expression. I think either options tell an interesting story of the event but I think I prefer the original because it shows such respect for your son.

Hi Richard. A lovely image of your granddaughter. I do like the suggestion to crop in closer. I think if perhaps we could have seen more of your son or if he was bending down closer to her, that might have been more effective in terms of us being able to see their connection better. I love the expression on her face. It definitely fits the title.   Posted: 10/21/2025 04:40:35
