How I Did It:
This is the bridge which carries road and rail traffic on the fixed link between Denmark and Sweden. At some point there is a tunnel for the rail and another bridge for the road traffic. It replaces the old ferry service which took an hour, with a road journey that now takes only ten minutes. The photo was taken from the deck of our cruise ship as we sailed underneath. I took several shots and got this on as the bridge moved into the top left corner of the viewfinder. Back home I took it into ON1 RAW and darkened the clouds a little. I also brightened up the sunrise light on the horizon. I also used the NoNoiseAI function in ON1 to take out high ISO noise. Camera was my Lumix FZ1000 with the built-in Leica 9-146 mm zoom lens (equ to 25-400 mm full frame). Camera settings were: 1/2000 at f/9, with ISO 1600. Focal length 9 mm.

Guy, the bridge as a leading line takes our eyes towards infinite where the bridge seems to go underwater. The presence of the boat gives some degree of scale as well. Nice dense clouds.   Posted: 10/10/2025 17:15:29

Serendipity and you took advantage of it. Gold and blue = warm and cool. The lower clouds look like a large hill or small mountain which causes one to linger more on the scene. The bridge looks like it is plunging into the sea - a good optical illusion. Actually just looked it up for the length and found it to be 11 miles.

Hi Guy
You did so well as you have in the past to capture such a wonderful image from a moving ship.
Great lead in line with the horizon on the lower third adding so much strength to the composition, the colours so compliment one another and the vessel on the left hand side adds wonderful balance.   Posted: 10/14/2025 13:31:50

Guy, I love the strong leading line. It pulls my eye into the scene. As others have said the ship gives this a good sense of scale. Good balance of complementary colors. Just one thing - and I don't know if this is even the case with this image - but I have found in my trip pictures that my post work at times makes the clouds in a cloudy sky tend towards blue and I have had to use White Balance to bring them back.
I am watching Ewan McGregor's current bike trip around Europe. Is this the 7 mile long bridge?

Gary, I too have noticed that heavy clouds often take on a blue cast when darkened in pp. It could be due to the blue sky above the clouds adding a slight blue cast which only becomes apparent in pp. Sometimes I correct it, sometimes I don't.
I googled the 7 mile bridge but that appears to be in the Florida Keys. This one is quoted as being 11 miles long in total, with a free span of just over a mile.   Posted: 10/20/2025 16:38:25

I too like the strong leading line of the bridge taking the viewers eye to the sky. The clouds add a lot of impact to this image   Posted: 10/20/2025 15:03:18
