Vella, great capture of a Ruby-throated Hummingbird in active work sucking the nectar from the Scarlet Sage. The wings are almost frozen (1/2000 sec) denoting movement which is good. To complete freeze the wings you need faster shutter speed. Good resolution in spite of the magnum crop.   Posted: 10/05/2025 11:30:19
Thanks nice improvement.   Posted: 10/14/2025 16:21:25
Great shot, Vella. The wings have just enough blur to show the movement. I wonder if you could just crop out that out-of-focus light bit in the top left corner? If you don't use it in Nature comps then you could just clone it out.   Posted: 10/14/2025 16:44:31
Hi Vella
I would so love to be able to walk into my back garden and see humming birds what a delight.
To say it is such a big crop there is great detail, the wing blur for me is perfect wonderful bright colours throughout and I do like Eriks suggestion of just slightly darkening the background   Posted: 10/15/2025 11:49:26

Merci Ian, in France now when i get back I am going to try it as I like it also.   Posted: 10/16/2025 20:49:27
Vella, I am amazed at the detail and sharpness with lack of noise that you got out of crop of this magnitude. Did you use any post-processing Noise reduction software? If you did I would like to know what it was. Also just curious why you didn't use your R5 which my memory tells me you also have. Great colors and great lighting on the hummer. If you decide to enter this in an Open Color Exhibition you might remove the brown and red stems from the background. Nicely done!   Posted: 10/18/2025 13:11:33
This was from a couple of year ago, before I got the R5. I didn't use any denoise except could be Lightroom but I don't think so. I also in France so can't check.

I'm envious of your image. I don't get too many opportunities to photograph hummingbirds. Your post work has improved the image. I may be inclined to crop just a little more.   Posted: 10/20/2025 15:06:09
