July 2026 - Reflecting

About the Image(s)

While in Hawaii, this saffron finch was enjoying a puddle. It seemed to like what it saw in the reflection. A few minutes later, it was taking a bath. This was a new bird for me. They are not native to the Big Island, but they are all over and very pretty. Sony a1, Tamron 25-200 2.8 lens, 1/1000 at f5.6. ISO 400. Handheld.

Colorful and sharp interesting subject. Could consider darkening the water and green plants some to allow the bird to stand out more. Nice contrasting colors.

I like the way that it is looking at it's reflection. What would you think about cropping some of the grass at the top to move your subject more out of the center?   Posted: 07/10/2026 12:11:48

Both your and Neal's suggestions are good ones. Will give them a go.   Posted: 07/10/2026 22:09:24

Contemplating his/her new friend. Good shot!   Posted: 07/15/2026 20:51:43

Very nice shot. I would consider cropping some of the greenery particularly on the left.   Posted: 07/17/2026 13:10:35

Hard not to like this. Appealing feathered friend. A dollop of a catch light in the eye would be nice also but maybe it would be too small to see.   Posted: 07/17/2026 21:53:35

It is a valuable nature and bird photograph. I also agree with the suggestions of my seniors, Neal and Dennis.   Posted: 07/20/2026 03:37:01
