About the Image(s)

Last fall, before the temperature dropped, I wandered along a nearby trail capturing fall colors. I placed sumac leaves and another bush branch on a wooden bench and photographed them on an overcast day of flat lighting. In Camera Raw I played with the sliders, did some cropping and spot healing but left in a few marks on the wooden bench slats as I thought they added some texture and filled the upper left hand corner which would otherwise be empty.

What do you think and what would you do differently?

Hi Henry. I love the colours in this image and they way all of the leaves are placed and that the colours seem to run from one leaf to another. The only thing that I would do is to straighten it (or make the diagonal slats more obvious). I feel that there is just not enough 'slant' and it keeps taking my eye to the slats.   Posted: 03/09/2024 22:46:20

Julie, working with the slant of the slats is a good idea.   Posted: 03/14/2024 19:49:21

Hi, Henry,
What a lovely arrangement of the beautiful leaves! I like the color of the slats too; it shows a nice contrast.
I was distracted by the slat lines too. I think the angle is just right. I tried cropping the lines on top and bottom, it seems less distractive.   Posted: 03/10/2024 18:06:54

Hi Henry,
I also like the arrangement of the leaves and how they go from yellow, to mixed, to red. I think the slats should be straightened. The contrast of the rough, dark wood against the colorful leaves is very nice. If you straighten the slats, you could crop off the top and bottom slats, as Ling Ling did. Nice photo!   Posted: 03/11/2024 21:40:12

Hi Henry, I really like the textured background and the fall coloring. I would crop it to a square and keep it tight to keep the lines from pulling your eye out of the picure. Nice "table top" landscape!   Posted: 03/15/2024 12:28:43

The leaves stand out against the background in a pleasant arrangement. I think Ling Ling's suggestion is an improvement.   Posted: 03/21/2024 05:37:55
