Acadia Sunrise by Michael Jack, QPSA

March 2024 - Acadia Sunrise

About the Image(s)

I was in Maine the second week in February hoping for some good scenes to add to my portfolio. This image was taken at another disappointing sunrise along the Loop Road in Acadia National Park overlooking Otter Cliff. As you can see, there was almost no snow or ice; the sky this morning had a few clouds but that was it. The ocean was calm (boring) up and down the coast despite some very strong winds for a couple of days. The rest of the sunset and sunrises were cloudless. It was warm - temps got into the 40s almost each day

Well I'm glad to see someone else has the same boring sunrise and snowless rocks that I had. I was pretty much in the same spot, just at sealevel.

You do have some nice color on the right side cliffs and I like the way the light brings out the texture of the rocks. That is the trouble with being a tourist, you don't get to pick the weather. Still it is a pleasing image of Acadia.   Posted: 03/06/2024 11:16:57

As a photographer there's nothing more frustrating then to get to a location and be disappointed when your vision of the perfect photo is crushed. The good thing is there is always another story to tell. Michael, you took a very nice photo of a beautiful location. The complimentary colors from the warm rocks against the cool blue ocean along with the texture and composition makes this image.   Posted: 03/09/2024 07:41:21

Photographing is a bit like fishing, you are not guaranteed the result you are hoping for. I like the contrast between warm and cold colours. If I shall give any suggestions, it would be to give the top of the sky a darker blue colour that repeats the sea.   Posted: 03/10/2024 03:17:01

Yeah it shame you didn't bet a better sunrise, but when traveling you have to deal with the hand you are give. This is still a nice image. The location is beautiful and sunrise does make the colors quite pleasing.   Posted: 03/18/2024 21:11:22

I love the leading lines and the warm sunrise colors. The composition and angle a done well as well. I wonder about long exposure... what would the water look like ?   Posted: 03/30/2024 21:33:51
