About the Image(s)

Every spring I try to get photos of birds I almond trees. This year was mostly cold and rainy. I caught this sparrow I a tree with most of the flower pedals gone. The original was over exposed. But since I had been so lacking in my mission, I put it in camera raw anyway, I did auto exposure and auto white balance and cropped it. That is all! I entered in in Creative in the camera club. The judge loved it! Crazy! Others seem to like it as well. Canon digital rebel T7i, 100 400 canon L lens, 1.4 extender!

If a shot has failed, I think that it is not the end of the world. The image can be converted to B/W or processed creatively. And the results sometimes can be amazing! And an example is the above photo.   Posted: 03/12/2024 10:03:51

I'm glad you got a photo out of this which makes you happy, and that the judge loved it also. But I'm afraid I find the colours too strange and strong for the subject matter. I did a quick edit into black and white which I think is interesting.... Attached just for you to see.   Posted: 03/13/2024 13:04:44

I am glad that you did not throw the image away. The extreme editing did create a very good creative image. It obviously helps that the image is sharp. I also like the composition and the crop.   Posted: 03/16/2024 12:33:38

As someone has already stated that the extreme editing has created a creative image, to my eye I have trouble retaining interest in the image. I would present the original image and then show this image and let the viewer take it from there.   Posted: 03/21/2024 09:08:09

Hi Barbara. At first glimpse I thought this was some kind of embroidery or painting that you had photographed !!. Turning the image into a creative image was a good idea. I did not know that auto exposure and auto white balance could achieve this. I am sure it did well in the creative section as it would find difficulty in the nature section given the shapes and colours. I like how the branch is diagonal from left to top right and the bird perched in the centre of the tree. A good learning lesson for me as to how to convert a nature image into a creative one. Thank you.   Posted: 03/22/2024 22:18:42
